Charles Hellis and Sons Gunmakers London is unique in the gun industry, sticking to the very roots of the industry and still doing everything completely by hand. This does not mean they are dinosaurs, in danger of becoming extinct in the modern world. They are highly innovative, responsible for making spring opening over/under shotguns, one of the very few innovations in Bespoke Shotguns for the last 50 years. These innovations show that 100 year old techniques and crafts are still relevant in the modern world.
The craftsmen used by Charles Hellis and Sons are quite simply the best in the industry, modern day artists. It is the talent afforded by the craftsmen that make the association with James Ingles Putters a perfect match.
The common denominator is crafting metal, give a Hellis craftsmen a piece of steel and anything is possible, whether it be hand making a screw for a lock plate, a shotgun, a rifle, or now a putter.
The advantage James Ingles Putters has with the Hellis craftsmen is the ability to converse. Increasingly prevalent CNC machines are capable of producing many more items in a faster time than human labour. However, what they cannot do is modify their actions half way through a process, or completely change course. They are inflexible and a sign of modern mass production. We communicate with the craftsmen to ensure completely flexible production.
Being able to ask a customer exactly what they want, being able to have a conversation with the craftsmen who will make the putter means you get exactly what you want, not something that is almost what you want.
